Welsh Books Council Magazines Tender Process Open (08-07-2014)

Welsh Books Council magazines tender process invites applications for funding for 2015-19.
The Welsh Books Council has invited tenders for funding general and cultural magazines in Wales. This is for a new franchise period of four years, commencing 2015 and ending in 2019. Categories include general, and literary magazines, and a development fund for start-ups.

Reflecting recommendations of a detailed recent survey of the field led by Tony Bianchi, the fresh guidelines put a new emphasis on variety of format, frequency of publication, collecting statistics such as web-page views, and, within the literary category, a slight shift of emphasis away from historical Welsh Writing in English. The key terms are now 'engaging writing', 'journalism', 'review' and 'debate'.

New Welsh Review, which currently holds the 'literary' category of the current franchise period, is poised to prepare an application for submission by 1 October with every confidence of winning funding up to 2019.
