Entries open for 2018 New Welsh Writing Awards as new category is announced: the Aberystwyth University Prize for an Essay Collection
This week entries opened for the New Welsh Writing Awards 2018: Aberystwyth University Prize for an Essay Collection, with first prize being a £1000 advance on an ebook deal and lunch plus a critique with London literary agent Cathryn Summerhayes of Curtis Brown.

Judge and New Welsh Review editor Gwen Davies outlined what she will be looking for in a Call for Entries video broadcast yesterday, which also called for nominations for titles in a new Readers' Poll on the same theme of the essay collection, with the same emphasis on non-academic titles with literary rigour, new research, personal voice and present docs-journalism. The minimum entry is 5000 words split into 2 essays, and a maximum of 30,000 words. See Terms and Conditions.

The closing date is 2 February, and you can enter via here. The longlist will be published on 3 April, the shortlist on 3 May in Aberystwyth, and the final ceremony will take place at Hay Festival on 1 June, where a specially commissioned film trailer of the submitted entry will be screened.
