REVIEW by Suzy Ceulan Hughes

NWR Issue 102

by Stevie Davies

Stevie Davies is one of Wales’ finest contemporary writers and yet, despite being both long- and short-listed for the Orange and Booker Prizes, and having many other prizes and awards to her name, she continues to be relatively little known. Expectations that her last novel, the superb Into Suez, would bring her the critical acclaim and wider readership she deserves, seem not to have been fully realised, so quiet aficionados of her intelligent and compassionate writing can only hope that Awakening will finally stir the masses...

Suzy Ceulan Hughes is a writer and translator. She is also English Reviews Editor for Gwales.
