From ‘The Manufactured Coastscape in Wales’ by Roger Tiley, NWR 100:

‘An Arts Council major Creative Wales Award in 2011 offered me the opportunity to photograph our industrial coastscape. I have always had an interest in industry, but the project posed the question, what kind of industry exists on our stunning coastline today? I decided to make all of the images at night, using spot lamps to illuminate specific areas. I began the project at the second Severn Bridge, the main artery to and from Wales for industry and commerce. My journey then meandered around the south Wales coastline, past the docklands and heavy industrial plants, through to the west where tourism and fishing are prominent, finishing near the Dee Estuary in the north.’

Roger Tiley is a documentary photographer whose work includes a documentary series on the coal mines of Wales and America. He is an Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award winner for the work previewed in NWR 100.
